Five-Week Intensive Online Summer Class
Are you a Latin teacher? Wish you could read in Latin faster, with better comprehension? Want to speak Latin with greater confidence and fluency? This is the course for you. Whether you’ve studied with us before, or you’re new to ALI but want to give your Latin reading and speaking ability a serious boost, we’d love to have you join us.
The ideal participant in this course is either a graduate of the entry-level Latin Teacher Boot Camp, or if not, already has experience reading and understanding simple Latin narratives.
Participants in Latin Teacher Boot Camp: Level Two, should already have a good grasp of Latin’s cases and declensions, adjectives, present participles, as well as some basic knowledge of verbs: present indicative (active and passive), all three persons in both singular and plural, as well as infinitives and imperatives.
If you are looking for a Boot Camp that assumes zero prior Latin knowledge, please check out Latin Teacher Boot Camp: Level One.
We are going to get you reading a ton of Latin and speaking about it at length over the course of five weeks of intense study.
Over five weeks this summer, we will read over 200 pages of Latin, walk you through more fundamentals of Latin grammar, learn tons of vocab, spend lots of time speaking in Latin, and discuss how to implement a spoken Latin methodology in the classroom. You will also gain familiarity with some incredible language-learning tools and strategies to use in your own teaching.
We will kick things off with an intense and high-speed review of the cases and declensions, participles, adjectives, present indicative verbs, the infinitive, imperatives, and pronouns. We will then proceed to learn the imperfect and future tenses of the indicative, indirect speech, relative clauses, ablative absolute, and if time allows, the perfect, pluperfect, and future perfect tenses of the indicative.
The Ancient Language Institute’s direct method of language teaching makes learning Latin fun and intuitive, and we are able to take advantage of the stellar suite of print and digital tools developed by Tim Griffith of Picta Dicta. In the Boot Camp, we’ll be using “Latin Grammar 4,” an integrated Picta Dicta module designed especially for students who’ve already completed “Latin Grammar 3,” but there is no expectation that you’ll be using that particular platform in your own future teaching or personal study.
This will be a highly interactive seminar focused on developing your reading, speaking, and writing skills in Latin while having lots of fun along the way. Sections will be limited to 12 participants to preserve a friendly, collegial atmosphere.
