Catch-Up | Lateral Entry | Review and Make-Up | Summer Enrichment
Does your student need to catch up on Latin? Transferring into a classical school right in the middle of the Latin sequence?Â
Or did your student fall behind during the school year? Or are you simply looking to learn something new this summer?
ALI’s Latin Summer School is meant for you and your student.Â
Over the course of four weeks, we will dive into the fundamentals of the Latin language: We will learn 250+ common vocabulary words, learn to use the 6 noun cases in all 5 declensions, and employ all the persons of the present active indicative as well as the present passive indicative in the 3rd person, and the imperative and infinitive moods.
We will be covering Lessons 1-15 in Picta Dicta’s Latin Grammar 3 and its associated reader, Gesta Egberti et Aliae Fabellae. Even if you will be transferring into a Latin program that uses a different curriculum, this will nevertheless equip you with a strong knowledge of the Latin case and declension system, essential for anyone studying Latin. You will also learn many of the most fundamental verb-related concepts.
Latin Summer School is not a vacation; this is an intensive Latin course meant to cover a ton of material, fast. But we’ll do it in the most engaging, memorable way possible. We use the Direct Method of language instruction, meaning we listen to, speak, read, and even laugh in Latin (“hahahae”).Â
But in order to succeed, your student must be ready for three hour-long class sessions every week for four weeks. And your student will be doing one hour of homework after every class session as well. (All told, that’s 24 hours of Latin packed into 4 weeks.) Catching up on a year’s worth of Latin isn’t easy. But it can be done – and it can even be fun.

Latin Summer School Teacher
Bo Evans, our Latin Fellow, serves as the Latin Chair at New Covenant School in Anderson, South Carolina. He graduated from Flagler College in 2018 with a B.A. in Religion and Philosophy. His passion for ancient languages began during his theological studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. After stepping into the classroom as a Latin teacher, Bo discovered the transformative power of active Latin pedagogy after enrolling in a Latin 101 class with Colin Gorrie here at ALI. Captivated by the success of the method’s ability to develop fluency, he went on to receive formal training in active Latin pedagogy through the Classical Education Program at the University of Dallas, studying under Drs. Laura Eidt and Erik Ellis, and additional studies with Drs. Terence Tunberg and Milena Minkova at the University of Kentucky. When Bo isn’t teaching or studying, he is probably training for a marathon.
