For the first time ever, ALI will be offering a course of instruction in Sanskrit, the holy language of India and its magnificent Vedic and Classical literature. We are now accepting applications for tutorial students (i.e. one-on-one classes with our Sanskrit Fellow). Sanskrit tutorials will be conducted using the same active, spoken methodology common to all classes at the Ancient Language Institute.

ALI's Sanskrit Fellow

Vladimir Chiurlea, our Indo-European Fellow holds a degree in Byzantine Chant and a master’s degree in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics (focusing on verbal semantics in Homer) from the University of Leiden. Vladimir’s main interests lie in ancient languages, especially the historical grammars and philologies of Greek, Sanskrit, Avestan, and Old Persian, but also in Phrygian, Gothic, Lithuanian, and Hittite. He’s especially passionate about the idiom and pronunciation of Attic Greek, and has experience teaching students at all levels, from beginners to advanced.

What You Need to Know

  1. Tutorials can get started at any time, irrespective of the academic calendar.
  2. Tutorial meetings times are highly flexible. We’ll work with you to find a class time that works for you and your teacher.
  3. Classes are live, online classes run by ALI Sanskrit professors. 
  4. You can skip the semester system. With one-on-one Tutorials, you can set up your own class schedule with an ALI professor.
  5. We want to make sure you’re completely satisfied. If you don’t love your first Sanskrit class, we guarantee a 100% refund. After that, in weeks 2 – 4, refunds will be made on a pro rata basis, based on however many class sessions you’ve attended. We cannot issue refunds after the fourth week of classes.
