In this course, you will continue reading the greatest Old English poem in its original language. This course covers the second third of the poem, consisting of approximately 1000 lines of verse, as well as Beowulf’s second battle: the fight against the āglǣċwīf Grendel’s mother. As we read, we will continue to explore the intricate and mysterious world of Beowulf, enjoying the poem not only for its historical, religious, linguistic, and mythological value, but also because it’s one of the world’s great stories.
