All L101 sections teach beginner students the fundamentals of the Latin language through ALI’s innovative active methodology. However, students have a choice of curriculum: Sections A-E will use Hans Ørberg’s classic Lingua Latina per se Illustrata (LLPSI) text alongside associated print and digital materials. Sections X-Y will use the newly written Gesta Egberti text, and associated print and digital materials, created by Timothy Griffith and Reuben Jansen. Both cohorts will be able to continue with their curriculum in L102 sections in the upcoming term.
In this course, you will learn Latin from one of our elite instructors, who’ll provide you with personalized guidance and consistent encouragement as you learn the basics of the language. In order to read Latin fluently, you need to make Latin part of you. The best way to do that is to speak in, listen to, and read Latin as much as possible. For that reason, we cap class sizes at 12 students max, so that you can receive supportive and constructive mentorship from your teacher. In every class session, you will use the vocabulary and grammar you’ve studied in active ways to help internalize the language.
