Year-Long Latin Teacher Cohort

Spend next school year practicing your Latin and developing your teaching skills alongside fellow teachers, in a group led by one of the Latin Fellows at the Ancient Language Institute.

Want to go deeper with teacher training? This is the Latin professional development opportunity you have been looking for. We will meet every week to develop our reading and speaking fluency, brainstorm activities and techniques for our classrooms, and deepen our knowledge of the theory and practice of Latin pedagogy.

This is the next step after completing the Latin Teacher Boot Camp summer intensive course.

Once a week, we will meet online for one hour as a group to use Latin actively, troubleshoot issues that come up in the classroom, and discuss the history of Latin pedagogy. In the Latin Teacher Mentorship Year, we’ll be picking up where the Latin Teacher Boot Camp leaves off, and completing “Latin Grammar 3,” the integrated Picta Dicta module designed especially for middle and high school students, but there is no expectation that you’ll be using that particular platform in your own future teaching or personal study.

This will be a highly interactive seminar with low homework expectations focused on honing both your Latin proficiency and your teaching skills. Sections will be limited to 12 participants to preserve a friendly, collegial atmosphere.

Teacher Mentor

Joseph Roberts, our Latin Fellow, is the brother of ALI Founder Jonathan Roberts. He received a B.A. and an M.A. from New Saint Andrews College. During his time there he studied Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, as well as participating in their Wenden House Latin translation projects. Immediately after graduating he began teaching Latin full time in private schools. He is now the head of school of Lewis Clark Christian School and teaches Latin on the side. In his spare time he writes Latin stories which his wife illustrates.
