In this course, you will read an assortment of authentic, unadapted primary texts in Old English, carefully selected for your reading level, all the while gaining comfort with the language’s grammar and adding to your store of vocabulary. You will read widely across the genres of Old English prose literature, including both secular and religious works. Reading selections include writings of King Alfred, Ælfric the Grammarian, and excerpts from The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle.
