This class is the next step in preparing your high schooler to read Ancient Greek primary sources. We will continue to read the Direct Method textbook Thrasymachus, a charming story written in Ancient Greek about a boy who journeys to the underworld and meets a cast of gods, heroes, and villains from Greek mythology. We will also use a wide array of print and digital tools to study vocabulary and grammar, all meant to equip students with an intuitive grasp of Ancient Greek so that they can read and speak the language with fluency and ease. Along the way, we will also begin reading some selections of authentic Ancient Greek primary sources, including the Greek New Testament.
High School Ancient Greek 2 Course Outcomes
- Understand basic Greek grammatical concepts, especially:
- First, second, and athematic aorist
- Future and imperfect tenses in all persons and numbers
- Passive voice
- Memorize 300+ common vocabulary words
- Read increasingly complex Ancient Greek narratives with fluency and understanding
- Further develop Ancient Greek conversation skills
